C41 Film Developing
1. Load the developing tank
Use the smallest tank needed for the number of rolls. This reduces chemical use and helps prevent overdevelopment.
Ensure the tank selection has a magnet attached to the base, as the JOBO processor will be required.
2. Prepare the chemicals
C41 developer, bleach and fixer can be found in the brown bottle on the chemistry shelf.
Measure the correct amount of chemistry for the tank size. Tank volumes are listed on the side of the tank. Rotation development will be used.
Fill the JOBO processor with enough water to reach the white line.
4. Process the film
Process using the following times:
| Prewarm | Developer | Bleach | Wash | Fix | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Time (m:s) | 5:00 | 3:15 | 6:30 | 1:00 | 6:30 |
Return all chemicals to the brown bottles once complete. Wash water can be disposed of in the waste water tank.
5. Wash and dry the film
Fill the tank with water and rinse aid, invert 5 times, and dispose of the solution in the waste water tank or down the drain. Repeat with 10 inversions, then 20, before opening the tank and drying the film.
Hang film in the drying cabinet with a clip on both ends. Turn on full power and check every 5 minutes. Film will appear flat and clear once dry.
6. Replenish the developer
Remove 40 ml of C41 developer from the brown bottle for each roll of film developed. Dispose of it in the waste water tank. Add 40 ml of C41 replenisher from the tapped box on the chemistry shelf to the C41 Developer bottle. Store the box upright after use to prevent leaks.
