Black & White Film Developing
1. Load the developing tank
Use the smallest tank needed for the number of rolls. This reduces chemical use and helps prevent overdevelopment.
When using the JOBO processor, ensure the tank selection has a magnet attached to the base.
2. Mix and prepare the chemicals
Mix the required volume of chemistry for your chosen agitation method. Tank volumes are listed on the side of the tank.
ID-11 is typically mixed 1+1 with water. Some films and ISOs require different ratios. Refer to the film developing chart for details.
Stop bath and fixer are stored in brown bottles on the chemistry shelf.
3. Calculate developing times
Measure the developer temperature and adjust the time using the temperature compensation chart.
When using the JOBO processor, reduce the developing time by 15% for rotation agitation.
Stop bath time is 1 minute. Fixing time is 5 minutes.
4. Process the film
Develop, stop, and fix the film using the calculated times. Dispose of used developer in the waste water tank. Return stop bath and fixer to the brown bottles.
5. Wash and dry the film
Fill the tank with water and rinse aid, invert 5 times, and dispose of the solution in the waste water tank or down the drain. Repeat with 10 inversions, then 20, before opening the tank and drying the film.
Hang film in the drying cabinet with a clip on both ends. Turn on full power and check every 5 minutes. Film will appear flat and clear once dry.
